European Natural Track Luge Championships 1971

The 2nd FIL Natural Track Luge European Championship took place from February 26th to 28th, 1971 in Vandans , Austria . The Austrian team won both single-seater competitions and eight out of nine medals, the Italian team won the double-seater.

After their triple victory at the first European championship last year, the Austrian team achieved a six-fold victory in the men's singles this year. The gold medal went to Anton Obernosterer , who was second last year. Silver went to Gottfried Lexer , who was third a year earlier. Erwin Eichelberger won the bronze medal . The defending champion Ernst Stangl finished 13th.

Austrian triple victory in the women's singles: Klara Niedertscheider became European champion with a lead of more than 19 seconds over silver medalist Annemarie Ebner . Ruth Oberhöller won the bronze medal .

The Italians Siegfried Graber and Josef Niedermair won the doubles , thus winning the only medal at this European Championship for Italy. The silver medal went to Anton and Gabriel Obernosterer . Anton Obernosterer was European champion with Josef Lexer last year . Third place went to Siegfried Wild and Othmar Hofer .
