European Natural Track Luge Championships 1979

The 8th FIL Natural Track Luge European Championship took place from January 27th to 28th 1979 in Fénis in the Aosta Valley in Italy .

Four-fold Italian victory in the men's single-seater: Damiano Lugon , who had already won bronze two years earlier, became European single-seater champion. Silver went to Otto Bachmann and bronze to Andrea Millet . Lugon and Millet also won the silver medal in doubles. Defending champion Hubert Mairamhof finished 14th.

While the Italian men celebrated a four-fold victory in the single-seater, the women even won a six-fold victory for the host country Italy. Roswitha Fischer , who had already won silver last year, became European champion in the single-seater. Second place went to Christa Fontana and third place to Herta Hafner . The defending champion Elfriede Pirkmann finished ninth.

Werner Prantl and Florian Prantl from Austria were European champions in doubles . They won the only medal at this European championship for Austria. Silver went to the Italians Damiano Lugon and Andrea Millet , who a few days later became the first world champions in doubles. Oswald Pörnbacher and Erich Graber from Italy won the bronze medal. The defending champions Werner Mücke and Helmut Hutter finished fifth.
