European Natural Track Luge Championships 1977

The 6th FIL Natural Track Luge European Championship took place from February 19-20, 1977 in Seis am Schlern , Italy . All three European championship titles and eight of nine medals were won by the host country Italy, which for the first time led Austria in the medal table.

At the 6th European Natural Track Luge Championships, all medals in the men's singles went to Italy for the first time. The Italian team even celebrated an eightfold victory. European champion was Erich Graber for the second time after 1974 . Werner Beikircher won the silver medal and Damiano Lugon won the bronze medal . For Beikircher this was his only European Championship medal, Lugon was European Champion in 1979 and 1989. The defending champion Alfred Kogler from Austria was not at the start.

The Italian Helene Mitterstieler won the women's single-seater competition and became the first natural track luge European champion from Italy after five Austrian victories. Second place went to the European champion from 1973, Elfriede Pirkmann from Austria. She won the only medal for Austria at this EM. Bronze went to the Italian Rosa Schwingshackl .

As in the men's singles, all the medals in the doubles went to Italy for the first time. Robert Jud and Erich Graber successfully defended their title and became European champions for the second time. Johann Mair and Michael Plaikner won the silver medal, Hubert Mairamhof and Josef Ploner the bronze medal.
