European Natural Track Luge Championships 1987

The 12th FIL Natural Track Luge European Championship took place from February 19-22 , 1987 in Jesenice in Yugoslavia . The Italian team won all three competitions and eight of the nine medals.

Date: February 21 (1st and 2nd races) and February 22, 1987 (3rd races)

For the fifth time, all three medals at the European Natural Track Luge Championships in men's singles went to Italy. Manfred Gräber won the race ahead of Harald Steinhauser and Erhard Mahlknecht . Steinhauser was third in the world championship last year, Gräber and Mahlknecht won their first medals at major events. The defending champion Manfred Danklmaier from Austria did not finish.

The Italian Delia Vaudan , who has also been world champion three times, was European single-seater champion for the second time in a row and for the third time. Before her, only the Austrian Klara Niedertscheider had managed to win the European championship three times. The Italian Helga Pichler won the silver medal . She was third at the World Cup last year. The bronze medal - and thus the only medal for Austria at this European Championship - was won by Irene Koch .

Italian triple victory also in doubles: For the second time in a row and for the third time in total, all EM medals in doubles went to Italy. The gold medal went to Andreas Jud and Ernst Oberhammer , who were third at the last European Championship and twice world champions. The silver medal went to the reigning world champions Almir Betemps and Corrado Herin , who were also second at the last European Championship. The bronze medal went to Arnold Lunger and Günther Steinhauser , who were third at the world championship last year. Günther Steinhauser and Andreas Jud were European champions in 1983.
