Career

Danklmaier, who started for WSV Liezen, achieved several successes at major events from the late 1970s to the mid-1990s. He won the first medal in 1979 with his brother Manfred at the European Junior Championships in Liezen . They took second place behind the Italian doubles Hellweger / Oberhammer .

In the general class, Danklmaier and his brother won the bronze medal in the doubles at the 1981 European Championships in Niedernsill , and two years later they just missed another medal in fourth at the 1983 European Championships in St. Konrad . At the 1984 World Cup in Kreuth , Danklmaier won the bronze medal in single-seater behind Alfred Kogler and Giuseppe Cerise , two years later he was eighth at the 1986 World Cup in Fénis and achieved third place in the single-seater at the European Cup in Inzing . During the next few years, Dankmaier only stayed just behind the medal ranks at the European Championships: in 1987 he was fourth in the single-seater in Jesenice , fifth in the single-seater in 1989 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and, together with Gerhard Hirzegger, also fifth in the double-seater and in 1991 in Völs am Schlern again fifth in the Single seater.

Danklmaier won the next medal at the 1992 World Championships in Bad Goisern when he finished second behind Gerhard Pilz in the single-seater. He achieved the same placement at the European Championships in 1993 in Stein an der Enns , this time behind the Italian Anton Blasbichler . At the 1994 World Championships in Gsies he was seventh and fourth in the singles at the 1995 European Championships in Kandalakscha . In the World Cup , which has been held since 1992/1993 , he achieved sixth overall place in this first winter and a year later with a second place in Fiè allo Sciliar and a third place in Szczyrk, fifth overall place in the single-seater.
