For the third time in a row, only Italians were on the podium in the men's singles. Otto Bachmann was able to successfully defend his title and became European champion for the second time. The silver medal went to Martin Jud and the bronze went to Andreas Jud , the European champion in doubles.

The 17-year-old Ingeborg Innerhofer from Austria became the European champion in the women's singles . She won the race ahead of Irmgard Lanthaler and the defending champion Delia Vaudan , both from Italy.

The Italians Andreas Jud and Günther Steinhauser became European champions in the two-seater. Jud had already won the World Championship together with Ernst Oberhammer last year. Her compatriots Raimund Pigneter and Georg Antholzer won the silver medal . Pigneter was world champion in 1980 together with Oswald Pörnbacher . The bronze medal was won by Roland Trattnig and Harald Rabitsch from Austria. For them it was the only medal at major events.
