Marlene Svazek

Marlene Svazek (born May 13, 1992 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian politician ( FPÖ ), state party leader of the FPÖ Salzburg . From November 2017 to June 12, 2018 she was a member of the Austrian National Council , and since June 13, 2018 she has been a member of the Salzburg State Parliament , where she acts as the club chairwoman. From January 2018 to May 2018 she was briefly one of the two general secretaries of the FPÖ alongside Harald Vilimsky .

Career

Svazek grew up in Großgmain , attended the Großgmain elementary school there and graduated from the Zaunergasse high school in the city of Salzburg. She then studied political science at the University of Salzburg between 2010 and 2013 and graduated in 2013 with a bachelor's degree . Since 2013 Svazek has been attending the master’s course at the University of Salzburg in the Department of Political Science and is currently at the end of the course. She is writing her master’s thesis on “Social Media in Democracy” with Reinhard C. Heinisch . In 2014, she also completed a course to become a certified public relations specialist certified by the Public Relations Association Austria. Marlene Svazek still lives in her hometown Großgmain.

politics

After volunteering within the Salzburg FPÖ and its apron organizations, Svazek was a political advisor in the Salzburg FPÖ state parliament club from the beginning of 2013 to mid-2015. In October 2015 she was elected state party secretary of the FPÖ Salzburg. From March 2014, Svazek also worked as a community representative in her home community Großgmain, but had to resign from the community representation mandate due to her move to Brussels. Svazek worked there for a year as a personal assistant and political advisor to Harald Vilimsky in the EU Parliament . In April 2016, at the age of 23, she was finally presented as the new and youngest state party leader of the FPÖ in Salzburg and elected the new party leader on June 10, 2016 with 95.6 percent of the delegate's votes. Svazek was the state's top candidate for the National Council election on October 15, 2017 and ran for fourth place on the FPÖ federal list after Federal Party Chairman Heinz-Christian Strache , the third National Council President Norbert Hofer and FPÖ General Secretary Herbert Kickl .

On January 12, 2018, she was elected General Secretary of the FPÖ, and on May 5, 2018 it was announced that she would resign from this position. After the state election in Salzburg in 2018 , when she was Freedom Party top candidate, she was at the beginning of the 16th legislative period on 13 June 2018 as a Member of the Salzburg Parliament sworn in and acts there as chairwoman. She was succeeded in the National Council by Volker Reifenberger , as FPÖ General Secretary Christian Hafenecker .

In September 2018 it became known that she would be the FPÖ top candidate in Großgmain in the 2019 municipal council elections. In the mayoral election she achieved 32.97 percent of the vote, but the ÖVP candidate already achieved an absolute majority in the first ballot with 54.3 percent. This makes Svazek Vice Mayor.
