Matthias Strolz (born June 10, 1973 in Bludenz , Vorarlberg ) is an Austrian entrepreneur and former politician ( NEOS ). From 2013 to 2018 he was a member of the Austrian National Council , where he was also the club chairman of his party. From 2012 to 2018 he was a founding member and federal party chairman of the NEOS - Das Neue Österreich party, with which he immediately entered the National Council in the 2013 National Council election in Austria .

Education and career

Strolz grew up in Wald am Arlberg, a district of the municipality of Dalaas , in the Vorarlberg Klostertal . In 1991 he graduated from the Matura on Bundesgymnasium Bludenz . During his school days from 1990 to 1991 he was the state school spokesman for Vorarlberg. Then Strolz began studying international economics and political science at the University of Innsbruck ; In 1994/95 he spent a semester abroad at Dublin City University . In the course of his studies, Strolz was elected chairman of the student body at the University of Innsbruck in 1996 as a member of the action community . Between 1997 and 1998 he also worked as a freelance journalist and writer and moved a year later to military service in the Austrian army one.

In 2000, Strolz acquired the qualification of a certified management consultant , and he also became a trainee at the Federation of Industrialists . Since 1997 he has also worked as a freelance trainer and moderator. At the same time he became a member of parliament for the Vorarlberg ÖVP National Councilor Karlheinz Kopf . In 2003 he obtained his doctorate with a dissertation on the subject of organizational development at the Faculty for Interdisciplinary Research and Training at the University of Klagenfurt in Vienna .

In 2001 Strolz founded ic2 consulting GmbH as managing partner . From 2008 he was then managing partner of promitto GmbH.

After leaving active domestic politics, Matthias Strolz returned to work as an entrepreneur and systemic organizational developer. In June 2019 he took part in the Salzburg startup story.one . On June 4, 2019, Matthias Strolz returned to the media stage with the TV show Strolz meets ... on the Austrian private broadcaster Puls 4 . Also in June 2019, Strolz became a member of the expert advisory board of the newly established "Mega Education Foundation " of the B&C Private Foundation and the Berndorf Private Foundation.

Political career

Matthias Strolz stopped his entrepreneurial activities in October 2012 when he co-founded the NEOS - Das Neue Österreich party , which he was elected chairman at the founding convention on October 27, 2012. The newly founded party entered into an electoral alliance with the Liberal Forum in the run-up to the National Council election in 2013 and received 5.0% of the votes, which enabled it to join the National Council.

On October 29, 2013 Strolz was sworn in for the first time as a member of the Austrian National Council. In parliament he subsequently acted as club chairman of the parliamentary club of NEOS and LIF . After the merger of NEOS and LIF to form the new party Neos - The New Austria and Liberal Forum on January 25, 2014, he was again elected party chairman by the general assembly.

On May 7, 2018, Strolz announced that he would step down as party chairman at the end of June 2018 and subsequently also as club chairman in autumn and leave the National Council. Strolz has repeatedly attracted attention during his political career through his graphic and striking comparisons; A frequent comparison was that of the “wing lifter”, with which he, who would have liked to become education minister, spoke out in favor of opportunities in education in particular. At a party congress on June 23, 2018, he was officially adopted as party chairman and Beate Meinl-Reisinger was elected by the delegates as his successor. Meinl-Reisinger followed Strolz in autumn 2018 as a member of the National Council and NEOS club chairwoman. After the National Council meeting on September 26, 2018, Matthias Strolz resigned as a member of the National Council and left the mandate to his successor.

Musical career

In October 2018 he presented his album Lost in Space together with Kurt Razelli at Flex in Vienna . The album entered the FM4 charts at number 14 as the highest newcomer in its first week .

Private life

Strolz has been married to his wife since 2005 and has three daughters. He lives with his family in Mauer , part of the 23rd Viennese district of Liesing .
