Kurt Razelli

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kurt Razelli (* 1986 or 1987) is a mashup artist, web video producer and operator of a YouTube channel.

Life

As a child, Razelli learned to play drums and later taught himself to play the keyboard . He completed an apprenticeship as a sound engineer at an SAE institute . Razelli's field of activity is strongly tailored to Austria and its media landscape. The musician first published videos on YouTube around 2010. Since, according to his own statements , he lacked the lyrics and vocals , he took TV reports with distinctive speech passages, edited them and mixed them with his music. Razelli cut the loud exclamation “Schokozuckerl!” (Austrian for chocolate candy) from the then BZÖ MP Gerald Grosz about the action of an ÖVP MP into a two-and-a-half-minute video and backed it with his beats . With this contribution he became known to a broad audience in Austria.

Successes of the Kurt Razelli songs

Razelli decides, depending on how the character speaks , whether to add a hip-hop track or one of the disco songs to the video material. According to his own account, he makes a living composing jingles and music for commercials. The Kurt Razelli songs are just a hobby. In contrast to many other Youtubers, he only makes profits from his work on the Internet through merchandising and the resulting occasional appearances as a DJ . He repeatedly turned down commercial inquiries - for example for advertising campaigns. His channel Mister Kurt Russel on YouTube has (as of 04/2016) 8,683 subscribers and 3,690,073 views. Probably the most clicked and most popular video is the "General Stronach Song", which resulted from an interview with Frank Stronach on the occasion of the founding of his party Team Stronach for Austria . The great popularity in Austria brought Razelli live performances from 2014 onwards, which he, however, carefully selected. For example, he performed in front of a large audience at the Vienna Pop Festival in 2015 and mixed his songs live.

reception

Razelli is also noticed by the features section . Among other things, the term Austrotrash was coined for him . Razelli's approach to sampling clips and statements from various actors, politicians or other figures from the local scene and stringing them together so that they are danceable attracts a lot of attention. The humor that is in the work is also repeatedly rated positively. He very often finds source material in the ORF series Everyday Stories and The Business with Love or We Live in Community Housing on ATV .

"The voyeuristic original clips are then cut and remixed and refined into a piece of postmodern culture."

“It is also everyday stories and their protagonists that Razelli takes up particularly often. But while Elizabeth T. Spira simply encourages people to talk and allows one or the other moment of silence, Razelli compresses one or two statements. Repeat it over and over again. And so brings the personality behind the statement very drastically to the point. "

“Somebody has to watch all that shit on TV. Kurt Razelli has been doing this dirty work for us for three years now and distilled it into danceable tracks. "

- Pop Festival Vienna

In 2015, Razelli released a CD entitled Der HA HA Effekt under his own label . However, since the visual impression of the videos was missing, the sales figures remained relatively low.

person

Razelli only appears under his pseudonym and disguises his true existence, about which nothing is known to the public. His first name is Kurt, but the last name is a fictitious name. He is also silent about his nationality. In addition, he never appears openly, currently he wears an Arnold Schwarzenegger mask at appointments . All of this is part of the overall concept, because Kurt Razelli should, in his own words, be and remain a fictional character.
