The B&C Private Foundation is an independent foundation that was established in 2000 by Bank Austria and Creditanstalt . Through its holding companies, the B&C Private Foundation - with the foundation's purpose of promoting Austrian entrepreneurship - exercises its function as a core shareholder in several companies. The B&C Group holds 50% plus 2 shares in Lenzing AG , 54.2% in Semperit AG Holding and 52.7% in AMAG Austria Metall AG . With B&C Innovation Investments, the B&C Group has been investing in technology growth companies since 2016 and has holdings in this segment in the companies Flightkeys, Kinexon, Citrine, Frequentis , TTTech, klarx and KREATIZE as well as in an Austrian start-up fund . The headquarters of the B&C private foundation and its holding companies are located in Vienna in the Palais Ephrussi .

history

The foundation was established in December 2000 by Bank Austria and Creditanstalt . As of 2000, the former holding company of the private foundation, B&C Holding (predecessor of B&C Industrieholding), acquired a number of significant non-banking investments from the two founders, Bank Austria and Creditanstalt . In return, the Bank Austria Group received capital participation rights, which meant that it was entitled to the majority of the current income of the B&C Group. At the end of 2008, the B&C Private Foundation bought back the profit participation rights from UniCredit Bank Austria AG through its subsidiary B&C Industrieholding . Since then, the entire dividend income has remained in the independent B&C group and can be reinvested in accordance with the purpose of the foundation. At the end of 2019, Unicredit transferred the final beneficiary position to the Commitment private foundation established by Austrian entrepreneurs.

Duties of the B&C private foundation

The central task of the independent B&C private foundation is to promote Austrian entrepreneurship. This funding takes place in particular through long-term investments in Austrian industrial companies. The B&C private foundation exercises the core shareholder function through its subsidiaries. These give their core holdings planning security at shareholder level, exercise their shareholder rights in the interests of the respective company and support the active supervisory board activities of the supervisory board members they nominate. The B&C Private Foundation promotes Austria as a business and business location through numerous initiatives that aim to improve the economic and legal framework. The focus is on: Houska Prize, law and economics, endowed professorships and business education.

Foundation initiatives

MEGA Education Foundation

The MEGA Bildungsstiftung was founded by the B&C Private Foundation and the Berndorf Private Foundation. MEGA stands for "Make Education Great Again" and "Multiple Education Grants Austria". The main focus of the MEGA Bildungsstiftung lies in the areas of fairness in education as well as business and life skills. The aim is to strengthen the everyday skills of all children and young people in order to prepare them for a self-determined life.

Houska price

In 2005 the foundation set up the “ Houska Prize ”. With a budget of currently 500,000 euros, business-related research projects are funded. Awards will be given to the best projects from university research and innovative research achievements by SMEs in two separate categories. This research award is awarded annually and is named after Wolfgang Houska, a former member of the foundation, who died shortly before the first award.

Further foundation initiatives

Among other things, the B&C Private Foundation supports the Vienna Corporate Law Day, which has been held annually since 2012 and deals with current corporate and capital market law issues. In addition, B&C has awarded two endowed professorships to promote innovation research at universities: Autonomous Systems at the Vienna University of Technology with funding partner TTTech and non-ferrous metallurgy at the Montan University Leoben with funding partner AMAG .

Education award

On the occasion of its 15th anniversary in 2015, the B&C Private Foundation announced the “Education Prize” with a focus on research communication at Austrian educational institutions with a total endowment of 150,000 euros. The three winners received prize money totaling 30,000 euros. The B&C private foundation has also made a nationwide funding pot of 120,000 euros available to enable the implementation of the best 20 projects across Austria. The education award was implemented in cooperation with the Austrian Ministry of Education.
