Frequentis is an international Austrian high-tech company based in Vienna. The group of companies develops air traffic control systems and software for security authorities.

history

The company was founded in 1947 by Emanuel Strunz in Vienna . At that time, the company's engineers produced a wide variety of technical products that were necessary in the course of the reconstruction , such as radio systems including accessories for power plants, customs services, gendarmerie / police and fire brigade . In 1950, for example, a radio station "Vienna II" was set up for RAVAG in Thaliastraße. 1955 followed the first air traffic control order for the airport Vienna-Schwechat .

In 1983 Hannes Bardach first took over the technical management and in 1986, as part of the Austrian management buy-out initiative, also took over the shares in the company. Bardach expanded the small company with 45 employees and a turnover of 2.9 million euros into an international group of companies. Today it is one of Austria's biggest hidden champions .

In the 1990s, the company gave decisive impetus to the introduction of fully digital voice communication systems in air traffic control - the world's first large system was installed at the European air traffic control Eurocontrol . Frequentis is also involved in the SESAR (Harmonization of Air Traffic Management) program.

Broadening of activities

From the end of the 1990s, business activities were broadened from the core business of air traffic control into other security-relevant areas, such as public safety , railways and shipping .

In 2005 the company received the order to set up an integrated communication system for the London Metropolitan Police ("Scotland Yard"), and in 2006 the order for the control center equipment for the Norwegian security network Nødnett followed . In 2007 NASA was equipped with a voice communication system, and in 2010 a major order from the Canadian Coast Guard was booked. In Brazil, Frequentis was able to set up a nationwide Air Traffic Management Network in 2014 and in 2016 Frequentis AG took over the essential assets of the German COMSOFT Solutions GmbH.

Internationally, the company is represented by companies, branches and agencies in over 50 countries and is considered the world market leader for secure communication networks.

Frequentis AG shares have been listed in the General Standard of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange and in the prime market of the Vienna Stock Exchange since May 14, 2019 .
