Life

The parents were immigrants from Bohemia and Moravia . His father Alfred, a master shoemaker, came from Prague , his mother Julie from Brno . During his school days he came into contact with radio technology for the first time in 1924, when Radio Hekaphon , the forerunner of RAVAG , began testing. From 1931 to 1946 he worked as a technician in various companies. His engineering status was officially recognized by the National Socialist government in 1939. At the beginning of 1941 he was called up for military service, but in April 1941 he was released from military service as an indispensable designer at Kapsch and Sons . For Kapsch he developed an acoustic direction finding system for locating snipers and optical devices for target acquisition in bombers. In 1948 he received his master's certificate as a radio mechanic.

At the end of the Second World War , he met Oskar Czeija , the founder of RAVAG , by chance in the destroyed Rundfunkhaus Wien on Argentinierstrasse , who told him that the SS units that had withdrawn had also blown up the major transmitter on Bisamberg . From this fact that there were almost no intact transmission systems in Austria any more, his idea arose to found a company to promote the reconstruction of antenna and transmission systems. Together with Walther Hamm, Strunz founded the Frequentis Society for Industrial High Frequency Technology mbH on July 1, 1947 in Vienna , which later became today's Frequentis AG . His first project was to set up the station “Vienna II” in Thaliastraße. Strunz built a new transmission system from the remains of the old destroyed stations, which he rented to the then Austrian broadcasting company RAVAG.

Under his leadership, a large number of products were created in the following years, such as tobacco moisture measuring devices, ultrasound therapy devices, radioactivity measuring devices, communication systems and safety systems for cable cars. For the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 1964 he developed a television synchronization system. In 1955, Frequentis entered the core business with the construction of the first communication system for Austrian air traffic control. In 1968 Emanuel Strunz married the radio announcer Elfriede Gerischer, who was born in 1918.

In 1983 Emanuel Strunz handed over the management of Frequentis AG to Hannes Bardach . Three years later, the managing director Bardach took over the company as part of a management buy-out .
