The Houska Prize is Austria's largest private research award .

The research award has been awarded annually by the B&C Private Foundation since 2006 and is named after Wolfgang Houska, a former member of the foundation, who died shortly before the first award. The prize money will be awarded the business-oriented projects of Austrian universities or research institutions, a total of 300,000 euros was up to and including, 2015. In 2016, the endowment was increased to a total of 400,000 euros. In addition to the University Research category , the award is also presented in the Research & Development in SMEs category. For the Houska Prize 2019, the prize money was increased to a total of 500,000 euros. There is also an innovation for the institutes eligible for submission in the "University Research" category: in addition to the state universities, the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the Institute for Science and Technology Austria , the state's private universities and universities of applied sciences are now also invited to submit . With the Houska Prize, the B&C private foundation is committed to improving research conditions and cutting-edge research in Austria.

Since 2011, the winners have received the Houskapreis trophy created by Michaela Schupfer . The Upper Austrian artist was inspired by the film actress and inventor Hedy Lamarr (1914-2000) for the design . In addition to her success as an actress, Hollywood diva and style icon, Hedy Lamarr also achieved outstanding results as a researcher and inventor.
