Michael Hammer (born June 3, 1977 in Linz ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and state official. He has been a member of the Austrian National Council since 2011 .

education and profession

Hammer attended elementary school in Altenberg near Linz from 1983 to 1987 and then switched to the local secondary school, which he completed between 1987 and 1991. He continued his education in 1991 at the higher technical college in Linz and graduated in 1996 in the field of electrical engineering . He then studied economics at the Johannes Kepler University Linz between 1996 and 2002 and graduated with the academic degree Mag. Rer.soc.oec. from. In between he did his military service in 1999. Hammer began his professional career in 2002 as an employee of the Province of Upper Austria and press spokesman for Regional Councilor Walter Aichinger . He then moved in 2003 as press spokesman and speaker to Regional Councilor Josef Stockinger . Hammer has been the group leader for “Strategic Planning and Budget” in the “Social” department of the Province of Upper Austria since 2005, and he also works as a moderator and coach.

In 2011, Hammer took over the role of President of the Upper Austrian Civil Protection Association (OÖZSV) and in 2009 became Deputy Chairwoman of the “Region Ottensheim” aid organization. In addition, he was elected chairman of the association “4YOUgend - Upper Austrian Youth Work Association” in 2008 and was editor-in-chief of the Upper Austrian youth magazine “Informer” from 2001 to 2007.

Hammer began his political career in the Junge ÖVP , where he held the position of local chairman in Altenberg between 1995 and 2004. Between 1998 and 2004 he also acted as district chairman of the young ÖVP Urfahr-Umgebung and was a member of the provincial board of the young ÖVP Upper Austria from 1998 to 2007. In 1997 he was elected to the local council of Altenberg near Linz in local politics, and in 2003 he took over the office of vice mayor. Hammer has been a member of the district committee of the ÖVP Urfahr-Umgebung since 1997 and was district party chairman of the ÖVP Urfahr-Umgebung from 2003 to February 28, 2014. Since 2004 he has been the local chairman of the ÖAAB Altenberg. In 2006 he was elected district chairman of the ÖAAB Urfahr-Umgebung and since 2008 he has been a member of the provincial board of the ÖAAB Upper Austria. On February 28, 2014 Michael Hammer was elected ÖVP district party chairman for the Urfahr-Umgebung district.

Hammer was elected to the Federal Council on April 1, 2009 and held this mandate until March 21, 2011. On March 22, 2011, he was sworn in as the successor to Norbert Kapeller as a member of the National Council.
