Walter Aichinger (politician, 1953)

Walter Aichinger (born July 30, 1953 in Wels ) is an Austrian doctor and politician ( ÖVP ). From 2003 to 2018 he was a member of the Upper Austrian state parliament .

Life

After primary and secondary school and the Adalbert-Stifter-Gymnasium in Linz , Walter Aichinger studied medicine in Innsbruck and then completed his specialist training in pathology (with an additional subject in cytology ). From 1978 he worked as a doctor at the General Hospital of the Sisters of Mercy in Wels, and since 1991 he has been Primarius of the Institute for Hygiene and Microbiology. From January 2008 to May 2011 he was managing director of the Wels-Grieskirchen Clinic . He resigned on May 18, 2011, probably in protest against the announced hospital reform that is supposed to bring about cuts in the Wels-Grieskirchen Clinic.

He began his political career in 1985 as a local councilor in his home town of Krenglbach , of which he became vice mayor in 1991. In the same year he was elected a member of the Upper Austrian state parliament. From 1995 to 2003 he was regional councilor in the state government, first as regional councilor for environmental protection, women, youth and state institutions and from 1997 as regional councilor for youth, community service, state institutions and companies, fire police and disaster relief service and land reform .

Aichinger had been a member of the Upper Austrian state parliament since 2003 and was regional councilor in the Upper Austrian state government between 1993 and 2003 .

The health politician acted as a member of the Upper Austrian state parliament and as health spokesman for the Upper Austrian People's Party. He was district chairman of the ÖVP Wels-Land , in September 2017 he was replaced by Klaus Lindinger in this function.

He was honorary chairman of the O. Ö. Aid organization and long-term vice president of the Upper Austria regional association of the Red Cross , where he succeeded Leo Pallwein-Prettner as president on November 16, 2011 .

Peter Oberlehner succeeded him as a member of the state parliament in September 2018 .

He is an honorary member of the Catholic student association KÖStV Severina Linz in the ÖCV .
