Birgit Silvia Sandler (born January 1, 1964 in Leoben , Styria ) is an Austrian politician from the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ). From November 9, 2017 to October 22, 2019, she was a member of the National Council .

Life

education and profession

After elementary school in Leoben, Birgit Sandler attended the grammar school there, where she graduated in 1983 . She then studied languages at the University of Graz until 1985 and was an au pair in Orange County (California) until 1988 .

She then worked for various Austrian companies, including the Leoben Learning Institute. From 1999 to 2006 and from 2009 to 2012 she worked as a social and vocational pedagogue at the Berufsförderungsinstitut (BFI) Styria, from 2006 to 2009 she was a team advisor for the KIAB (“Control of illegal foreigners' employment”), which later became the financial police . From 2012 to 2017 she headed the association secretariat of Volkshilfe Steiermark.

politics

Birgit Sandler has been a member of the state women's committee of the SPÖ Styria since 2012 and has been a member of the municipal council of the city of Leoben since 2014, where she was city councilor from June 2016 to December 2017. Since August 2015 she has been regional chairman for education of the SPÖ Leoben-Eisenerz. She is a member of the district executive committee and the district women's executive committee of the SPÖ Leoben as well as the extended state party executive committee of the SPÖ Styria.

In the National Council election 2017 she ran in the regional constituency of Upper Styria , on November 9, 2017 she was sworn in as a member of the Austrian National Council , where she acted as the area spokesperson for families and people with disabilities as the successor to Ulrike Königsberger-Ludwig . After the National Council election in 2019 , she left the National Council.

After the 2020 municipal council elections , she was once again a city councilor in Leoben.
