Karl Schmidhofer (born May 6, 1962 in Scheifling ) is an Austrian politician of the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP). He has been a member of the National Council since April 10, 2019 .

Life

Karl Schmidhofer attended secondary school in Oberwölz after the elementary school in Schönberg-Lachtal . He then completed an apprenticeship as a waiter, in 1981 he passed the final apprenticeship examination. After his military service , he worked as a self-employed innkeeper and hotel manager. He was managing director of the ski operations at Lachtal , Kreischberg and until December 31, 2018 in the Sankt Lambrecht - Grebenzen ski area . On January 1, 2019, he became interim managing director of Hauser Kaibling Bergbahnen until June 30, 2019 . He is president of the Styrian Ski Association and chairman of the Murau-Murtal holiday region.

Schmidhofer lives in St. Georgen am Kreischberg , Murau district , is married and has two adult children. His niece is the ski racer Nicole Schmidhofer . In 2014 he was awarded the professional title of Commercial Councilor.

Karl Schmidhofer became politically active in the Young People's Party (JVP) in 1980 and was a local councilor for 16 years. In 2013 he was elected district chairman of the economic association in the Murau district. He is regional chairman of the Murtal Chamber of Commerce and deputy ÖVP district chairman. In the state elections in Styria in 2015 , he ran for the Styrian People's Party in state electoral district 4 (Upper Styria) in 15th place on the list.

In 2017 he ran in the National Council election behind Andreas Kühberger and Barbara Wolfgang-Krenn for the Upper Styria regional constituency in third place on the list. In the National Council Schmidhofer moved in the XXVI. Legislative period for Barbara Wolfgang-Krenn, who died on April 3, 2019. As part of the coalition negotiations for the formation of a government in 2019 , he is negotiating in the main group State, Society and Transparency.

After the National Council election in 2019 and the formation of the Federal Government Kurz II in January 2020, he was appointed in the XXVII. Legislative period in the ÖVP parliamentary club as the successor to Gabriel Obernosterer area spokesman for tourism.
