Nico Marchetti

Nico Marchetti (born February 19, 1990 in Vienna ) is an Austrian politician of the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP). He is regional chairman of the Young People's Party in Vienna and has been a member of the National Council since November 9, 2017 .

Life

Marchetti grew up in Vienna-Favoriten after his parents had moved there from Carinthia shortly before. First he attended the local grammar school and later switched to the Vienna Business School , where he also graduated. Today Nico Marchetti lives in the Sonnwendviertel and studies at the Vienna University of Economics and Business .

During his school years Marchetti became the provincial and federal Head Boy selected and thus the first time politically active. During his tenure, one of the largest school strikes of the Second Republic took place with up to 60,000 demonstrators across Austria to prevent the abolition of the school-free days . Marchetti also called for a boycott of the PISA test as a means of exerting pressure on the implementation of reforms in Austrian school policy, for which the student at the time had to accept civil and criminal lawsuits from the BIFIE , which carried out the PISA test , which were ultimately dropped.

Marchetti was elected to the district council in the 2015 district council elections in Favoriten and also held the function of club chairman in the district council. He has also been the regional chairman of the Young People's Party in Vienna since 2015, succeeding Dominik Stracke . In 2017 Marchetti was unanimously elected district party chairman of the ÖVP favorites.

In the 2017 National Council election , Marchetti ran as the top candidate for the ÖVP in the Vienna-South constituency . There he achieved 1385 preferential votes. The ÖVP was able to achieve a mandate in this constituency in this election, which Marchetti could move as a member of the National Council. In the 2019 National Council election , he again succeeded in entering the National Council with 1408 preferential votes.

He is an honorary member of the KStV Rhenania Vienna in the MKV . Nico Marchetti is avowedly homosexual.
