Reinhold Lopatka (born January 27, 1960 in Vorau , Styria ) is an Austrian politician of the ÖVP . From December 2013 to November 2017 he was chairman of the ÖVP parliamentary club.

Life

After attending primary school in Dechantskirchen, Reinhold Lopatka attended the Oberschützen modern language grammar school , where he graduated in 1978 . In 1982 Lopatka was after studying law and theology at the University of Graz for Doctor juris doctorate . Already active as a pupil and student representative in his youth and studies, he was finally elected to the Styrian state parliament in 1986 . During his school days he joined the K.Ö.St.V. Asciburgia in Oberschützen and founded the K.Ö.St.V. in 1976. Festenburg in Hartberg , both in the MKV . He was also the spokesman for Amnesty International Group 122. In 2005, the Catholic student association K.Ö.St.V. Babenberg Graz in the ÖCV her ribbon of honor, and since 2013 he has been an honorary member of a KaV Capitolina Rome in the CV .

Reinhold Lopatka has been married since 1983 and has three sons. His brother Eduard is a doctor and also looked after the ÖSV team.

From 1993 to 2001 Lopatka was the Styrian ÖVP state manager, from 2000 to 2003 he was club chairman of the Styrian People's Party in the state parliament. In 2002 he finally managed the National Council election campaign for the federal ÖVP. In the National Council election in 2002 , the ÖVP gained significantly more votes (15.2 percent more than in 1999) and again became the club with the largest number of seats in the National Council . After this election victory, Wolfgang Schüssel , then federal party leader of the ÖVP, brought Lopatka into the federal party and appointed him general secretary of the ÖVP in 2003 . In the same year he was elected as a member of the National Council. He was sent to the Federal Government of Gusenbauer (2007/2008) by the ÖVP as State Secretary in the Federal Chancellery , where he was in charge of the Sports Department , and to the subsequent Federal Government Faymann I as State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Finance . In the course of the government reshuffle in April 2011, he resigned from the government and resumed his seat on the National Council. In October 2011 he became his party's foreign policy spokesman. On September 11, 2012, he rejoined the Federal Government Faymann I as State Secretary in the Foreign Ministry and was a member of it until it was resigned after the 2013 National Council election . On December 12, 2013, Reinhold Lopatka was elected chairman of the ÖVP parliamentary club as the first Styrian with 98 percent in a secret ballot . Since 2004 he has been the regional representative of the Styrian People's Party , and from 2004 to 2015 he was Vice President of the Political Academy of the ÖVP . In 2010 he took over the presidency of the Austrian-Australian Society, he is also the auditor of the European People's Party (EPP) , Vice-President of the Austrian Disabled Sports Association (ÖBSV) and President of the Institute for Environment, Peace and Development. From 2014 to July 2017, he was Federal Deputy Chairman of the Austrian People's Party.

In 2015, club chairman Lopatka recruited four members of the Stronach (TS) team for the ÖVP parliamentary club in the National Council. As a result, the number of MPs increased from 47 ( 2013 National Council election ) to 51. The ÖVP thus moved closer to the number of MPs in the SPÖ , which has been represented by 52 members since the 2013 National Council election . This maneuver provoked criticism from all the other parties represented in the National Council.
