Peter Weidinger

Peter Weidinger (born November 21, 1977 in Villach , Carinthia) is an Austrian politician of the ÖVP . He was a city ​​councilor in Villach from 2007 to 2017 . From November 2017 to October 2019 he was a member of the National Council and has been a member of the National Council again since January 9, 2020.

Professional and political career

Peter Weidinger joined the JVP in 1995 and was Carinthian JVP regional chairman from 1999 to 2003. During his studies, he did internships at the Villacher Brewery (1997/1998), at Infineon (1999/2000) and at the Austrian Cultural Forum in Washington DC (2005).

In 2003 and 2004 Weidinger worked for the Kärntner Wirtschaftsbund and in 2005 - responsible for volunteer support - in the Vienna ÖVP state election campaign. In 2006 he moved to ÖVP Lower Austria. In 2007 Peter Weidinger took over the ÖVP Villach as city party chairman and became a city senate member. His city council department comprised the areas of tourism, traffic planning, trade and events, road law and market affairs, as well as food and veterinary police. He has been a member of the Villach municipal council since 2017.

Peter Weidinger is a member of the Carinthian Eco-Social Forum. As chairman of the International Summer University Carinthia, he is a member of the Carinthia Civil Society Platform. And he is a member of the Carinthian Landsmannschaft.

After the National Council election in 2019 , he resigned from the National Council. Since January 9, 2020 he has been a member of the National Council again. He replaced Elisabeth Köstinger , who became Minister in the Federal Government Short II .

Private

Peter Weidinger grew up in Villach and attended the BG / BRG St. Martin and the Borg Klagenfurt. He then studied law at the Karl Franzens University in Graz . After studying in London and Florence, he deepened his English at the University of Pittsburgh in the US state of Pennsylvania. Weidinger has been married to his wife Evelyn since 2014. He is a member of the KÖStV Tauriskia Villach in the MKV .
