Johannes Schmuckenschlager (born September 20, 1978 in Klosterneuburg ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and has been a member of the National Council since December 2008 . He is President of the Lower Austrian Chamber of Agriculture .

Life

After his Matura at the federal upper level high school for competitive athletes in Vienna XX , he passed the skilled worker examination in the field of viticulture and cellar management at the Krems viticulture school . From 1998 he worked in his parents' winery, which he took over as manager in 2006. As a winemaker, he also worked as a wine tavern owner and thus came into close contact with the people of his home town, but also with visitors from Vienna and the surrounding area. He was involved in the Lower Austrian Farmers 'Union and was elected chairman for the next three years at the 2007 regional parliament of the Lower Austrian Farmers' Union . Schmuckenschlager is also district chairman of the farmers' union Klosterneuburg and chairman of the Klosterneuburg winegrowing association. At the Federal Council of Farmers in 2009 he was elected Vice President of the Austrian Farmers' Union.

In the National Council election in Austria in 2008 , he ran for the ÖVP in the constituency Vienna-Umgebung on the second place on the list. On December 3, 2008, Schmuckenschlager was sworn in as a member of the National Council. In this position he succeeded Michael Spindelegger , who had been appointed Foreign Minister and moved to the government bank.

In 2013, Schmuckenschlager was succeeded by Josef Pleil as Federal Viticulture President of the Viticulture Association. In September 2018 he was nominated to succeed Hermann Schultes as President of the Lower Austrian Chamber of Agriculture , and in December 2018 he was elected President of the Lower Austrian Chamber of Agriculture.

In accordance with his training and his profession, Schmuckenschlager is committed to the preservation of small-scale agriculture and forestry in Austria. It is for the expansion of the Vienna Woods region as a natural and recreational area and for the expansion of the necessary infrastructure in the area around Vienna.

His political role model is the former Federal Chancellor Leopold Figl , who also worked for the Lower Austrian Farmers' Union in his early political days.

Johannes Schmuckenschlager comes from a family of politicians. His grandfather Johann Hinterndorfer was a councilor in Klosterneuburg, his father Josef Klosterneuburg council. His twin brother Stefan has been mayor of Klosterneuburg since 2009. Johannes Schmuckenschlager has been married since 1999 and has two sons. His hobby is rowing, he has been a member of the RV Normannen in Klosterneuburg since his youth. He is a member of the KÖStV Rhaeto-Norica Klosterneuburg in the MKV .
