Stefan Schmuckenschlager (born September 20, 1978 in Klosterneuburg ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ). He is mayor of the Lower Austrian city ​​of Klosterneuburg.

Life

Stefan Schmuckenschlager comes from a family of politicians. His grandfather Johann Hinterndorfer was a councilor in Klosterneuburg, his father Josef was a councilor there. His twin brother Johannes Schmuckenschlager is a member of the National Council .

Stefan Schmuckenschlager went to elementary school in Klosterneuburg and did his Matura in Vienna , after which he did his military service . He received his graduation from the University of Vienna in political science . From 2005 to 2008 he was assistant to the press spokeswoman for Österreich Werbung . He has been a key account manager at Federal Procurement (BBG) since 2008 .

He is active in rowing in the Klosterneuburg rowing club Normans . Under coach Willi Bauer he was multiple Lower Austrian regional champion and in 1996 Austrian youth champion. Together with his brother he was Austrian vice youth champion in two . At the Austrian Rowing Association (ÖRV), Stefan Schmuckenschlager was responsible for press work.

Political career

In 1999 Stefan Schmuckenschlager joined the ÖVP. First he was the media officer of the Young People's Party (JVP) Klosterneuburg, then in the parliamentary group of the ÖVP Klosterneuburg responsible for press work. For the mayoral election in 2005 he was an employee of the election office of the long-time Klosterneuburg mayor Gottfried Schuh . From 2005 Stefan Schmuckenschlager was a member of the local council and from April 2008 a member of the city council with responsibility for civil engineering.

In 2009 Gottfried Schuh resigned from his position. The Lower Austrian architect and member of the state parliament Willibald Eigner has been nominated as his successor by the ÖVP. Due to a building scandal surrounding the Villa Meran , the candidacy of the owner was withdrawn and Stefan Schmuckenschlager was proposed. He won the vote in the city council and became mayor of Klosterneuburg in November 2009.
