The Nina Hagen Band was the first band (1978 to 1979) of the singer Nina Hagen after her move from East to West Berlin (with a short interlude in Great Britain ).

history

In addition to Nina Hagen (vocals), the band consisted of Reinhold Heil (keyboard instruments, vocals) and three former members of the West Berlin band Lokomotive Kreuzberg : Herwig Mitteregger (drums, vocals), Bernhard Potschka (guitar, vocals) and Manfred Praeker (bass, Singing).

The individual musical ideas and skills of the five different personalities not only led to the considerable success of the first LP Nina Hagen Band (which was made with an almost faithful copy of The Tubes title White Punks on Dope, but with the German text "Ich glotz TV ( TV-Glotzer) "is opened), but also to an early end of the joint work. Due to the contract, a second record had to be produced. Nina Hagen boycotted the joint departure to the recording studio at the last minute. The four remaining members of the band then decided to get the recordings over and done with (for their part) immediately and not only started the journey alone, but also played the music including the backing vocals without a singer. Their singing was only recorded later. The record was named discomfort . Both the first album and Unease were awarded gold records for sales of more than 250,000 units.

After separating from Nina Hagen, the remaining members of the band formed the rock group Spliff , while the namesake continued her career solo.
