David Hanselmann (born April 6, 1952 in Bietigheim ) is a German - American rock and pop musician and now lives in Bietigheim-Bissingen .

Life

Hanselmann originally trained as a retail salesman. As a 13-year-old he made his first appearances in the clubs of the Americans stationed in Germany. In 1967 he founded his first band, The Mayors, and in the following years went on tour as a guest musician with several well-known bands and musicians, e. B. 1970 with UFO and Country Joe McDonald and 1974 with Hardin & York . In 1975 the British drummer Jon Hiseman invited him to join the re-formation of the band Colosseum as a singer. Rehearsals with Gary Moore , Don Airey and Neil Murray followed, as well as a tour with Colosseum II and Canned Heat .

In the following years he was a member of several German bands. In 1977 he produced the album Using the Head with Message and in the same year founded the Maximum Party Band in Stuttgart. In 1978 the album Hats of Glass was created with the Austrian rock band Eela Craig and the album A la Carte with Hanselmann as guest singer of Triumvirat . Together with Peter Herbolzheimer's Rhythm Combination & Brass, he appeared on the ARD program Bio's Bahnhof .

For Werner Böhm's stage character Gottlieb Wendehals, Hanselmann wrote the title Herbert in 1979 , which became the first big hit for Böhm. In 1979 there was also a collaboration with the Reutlingen progressive rock band Zomby Woof on the recordings of their second album No Hero, which was only released on Casino Records in 2009. He then turned back to more experimental arrangements and released the concept albums Stonehenge and Symbols in 1980 and 1981 together with keyboardist Chris Evans . For their debut, the two musicians were awarded the Grand Prix du Disque for the best concept album at the 1980 Montreux Jazz Festival . The album Stonehenge was released in 2013 in a revised new edition with additional material.

In 1982 he tried to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest with the title Lady in a duet with Mary Roos , Werner Böhm's wife at the time, but only came in 6th in the preliminary round. But after Nicole's A Little Peace it was the second most successful title from the preliminary round many TV shows and sold singles.

Hanselmann achieved his greatest chart success during the 1990 soccer World Cup in Italy , when his title Go Get the Cup - aided by the German national team's title win - made it into the top 10 of the German single charts. A year later he published the official club song of VfB Stuttgart Olè VfB . In 1994 he continued his football collaboration and wrote the club song of Hamburger SV HSV Forever , which is still used today as an opening music for home games. The title "The Race is On" was chosen in 1993 as the signature tune of the German Touring Car Championship (DTM). From 1993 to 2004 Hanselmann was on tour with Pur as a tour musician .

Hanselmann was successful for years with his band 'David Hanselmann and the Dudes', with whom he released a live CD. He played with the Bee Gees , Lionel Richie and in 1990 at the Rock am Ring Festival, because Marek Lieberberg , totally enthusiastic about him, invited him to it. He toured with 'The Union' and together they released six CDs. With his own band 'David Hanselmann Band' he is a guest in many clubs in Germany. With the band 'Men Go Crazy' he performed at Annette Humpe's birthday in Berlin together with the Prinzen and Ich + Ich . The duo 'Blue Eyed Soul', which he founded with Berti Kiolbassa (keyboards) in 2009, has conspired to soul and R&B and performs at events of major companies at home and abroad. Another project is the band MCM, which brings the music of Chicago and Blood, Sweat & Tears back to life. There he sings with Andy Laycock from the Flying Pickets .

In 2013 Hanselmann took part in the third season of the singing casting show The Voice of Germany and was among the best 48 candidates.

On June 1, 2015, on the occasion of his cancer, a benefit concert entitled "For David" took place in Ludwigsburg . The guests included Fools Garden and Pur . His treatment should be financed from the proceeds.
