The third season of the singing talent show The Voice of Germany was broadcast from October 17, 2013 to December 20, 2013. Like the second season, it was moderated by Thore Schölermann and backstage by Doris Golpashin . The jury consisted of the pop singer Nena , the duo Alec Völkel and Sascha Vollmer from the country band The BossHoss , the rapper and music producer Max Herre and the songwriter, guitarist and singer Samu Haber . The winner was Andreas Kümmert .

First phase: the blind auditions

The castings for the third season took place from April to June 2013, but were not shown on television. The blind auditions were recorded from July 21 to 24, 2013 in the Adlershof studio in Berlin and broadcast in six television programs from October 17 to November 1, 2013. The jury selected 71 candidates for the second phase, in which Samu Haber, Nena and The BossHoss with 18 each and Max Herre with 17 candidates moved in.

The candidates Nico Gomez, Dolo Lee, Andreas Kümmert , Katharina Schoofs, Thorunn Egilsdottir , Katja Aujesky, David Whitley, Annika Kron, Aalijah Tabatha Hahnemann, Jazz Akkar and Holger Brokmann received all four jury votes . Second phase: the battle round

The Battle Round was recorded in Berlin on August 30th and 31st, 2013 and broadcast in four television programs from November 7th to 15th, 2013. The coaches prepared the participants for the vocal duels together with advisors from their musical environment. As in the first two seasons, The BossHoss was supported by music producer and songwriter Jan Löchel , Nena by music producer and keyboardist Derek von Krogh; Nena was also advised by guitarist John Andrews. Max Herre was supported by rapper and singer Sékou , Samu Haber by music producer and songwriter Brix.

In the groups of Samu Haber, Nena and The BossHoss, the 18 candidates fought six one-on-one duels and two three-way battles each; In Max Herre's group of 17 candidates, seven one-on-one duels and one three-way battle took place. From each one-on-one duel, the respective coach selected one of the two candidates who went straight to the next phase; from every three-way battle, two of the three candidates went straight through. Unlike in the first two seasons, the losing candidate of a battle could also advance to the next phase if one of the other coaches took over. If more than one of the other coaches wanted to do this, the candidate chose one of them as his new coach. Samu Haber, Nena and The BossHoss each took on two candidates from other coaches, Max Herre did this three times. All four coaching groups with twelve participants each went into the next phase.

Third phase: the showdown

The newly introduced third phase, the so-called showdown, was recorded in Berlin in mid-September 2013 and broadcast in three television programs from November 21 to 28, 2013. Each of the 48 remaining participants prepared a song of their own choosing, then each coach decided which two of his candidates would compete against each other with their song performance. After the presentation of both candidates, the coach selected one of them for the live show phase, in which all four coaches with six participants each moved in.

Fourth phase: the live shows

The four live shows took place from November 29th to December 20th, 2013 in Berlin. In the first two live shows, 12 of the remaining 24 participants appeared: Three candidates from the same coach performed a song one after the other, after which the coach had to distribute 50, 30 and 20 points to the three participants. Regardless of this, the three candidates received their televoting percentage result as points. From each of the eight three-way fights, the participant with the highest point total went to the semi-finals. The four semi-final duels were each played by two candidates from different coaches. Two of Samu Haber's protégés entered the final, one from Max Herre, one from The BossHoss and none from Nena.

Semifinals

In the semifinals on December 13, 2013, two candidates from different coaches competed against each other. The four vocal duels were decided solely by the votes of the audience. Since the four winners were no longer determined within the individual groups, no coach had a secure place in the final. In the end, Nena's two candidates were eliminated, while both Samu Haber's participants reached the final.

All eight semi-finalists had recorded their own, newly composed song before the broadcast. After each of the four duels, the respective winner sang his song live on the show. The studio recordings of all eight songs, including those of the four not presented live, were offered for sale in the download shops after the broadcast had ended.

At the beginning of the show, Katy Perry sang her song Unconditionally together with Peer Richter, Chris Schummert, Debbie Schippers and Caro Trischler . Perry later performed her latest hit, Dark Horse . Michael Bublé sang his song After All with the other four semi-finalists . Max Herre performed the songs ANNA and Tabula Rasa with Joy Denalane and Gentleman .

final

The fourth live show, the Finale, took place on December 20, 2013. As in the first two seasons, the winner was determined by a combination of the number of song downloads and the televoting result. The songs of the four finalists presented in the semifinals were available for download in the iTunes Store and other portals for a fee. For each of the four finalists, a download sold by December 19, 2013 counted as many as two televoting votes on the evening of the final.

In the final show, each participant in the final performed their own song, sang a duet with their coach and another duet with a guest artist. Andreas Kümmert sang with Rebecca Ferguson, Chris Schummert with James Blunt, Judith van Hel with Tom Odell and Debbie Schippers with Ellie Goulding. Andreas Kümmert had the most downloads before the start of the final show, and after the televoting he also had the highest overall rating.
