The Calling is a rock band that in Los Angeles ( California ) by Alex Band was founded and Aaron fireplace. The band name is based on the retrospective consideration of the previous career path and the belief that their music is a calling. The common band was temporarily suspended, as Alex's band pursues solo plans.
Band history
Aaron Kamin was in a relationship with Taryn Band, the sister of Alex Band, and found Alex's guitar in their house in the summer of 1996. Even if he was only 15 years old, and thus four years younger than Kamin, he still convinced him with his singing skills. The relationship with the sister soon broke due to the music of the two. Together with a drummer (58) and a bassist (40) they initially played as Generation Gap , but at the urging of RCA Records had to part with the two in order to get a record deal .
In the summer of 2000 Billy Mohler, Sean Woolstenhulme and Nate Wood joined the band. They achieved their first success in Germany with their single Wherever You Will Go , which could be heard in the film Coyote Ugly as well as in advertising for the then new series Star Trek: Enterprise . The song was originally written by Alex Band and Aaron Kamin after Kamin's cousin passed away. It refers to her husband, with whom she was married for over 50 years, and deals with the question of how things should go on after her death and whether the two will meet again. The terrorist attacks on September 11th 2001 made the song a "hymn to hope".
Actually, the band would have been heard in the soundtrack to Summer Catch , but had to give the self-written song to Radford due to an objection from the record company .
In July 2001 the album Camino Palmero was released , which sold very well. The name for the album comes from the street where the two met. Tours followed as opening act for Lifehouse and Michelle Branch before heading out again as headliners in February 2002 .
In 2003, Alex Band recorded a song with Carlos Santana . The title is Why Don't You and I and was originally sung by Chad Kroeger ( Nickelback ). Because of problems with Kroeger's record company, however, Alex Band was selected to record the single. In Germany both versions were played on the radio.
In 2004 album II was released , on which only Kamin and Band could be heard as band members. In June 2005, the split was announced, whereupon Alex Band promised to release a solo album , expected in mid-2006 . Frontman Alex Band's solo album was released in North America on June 29, 2010.
In interviews on the occasion of his first solo album, the band claimed that The Calling was never a real band. He hired and paid all members: "Back then, my label just wanted a band image. They showed band members on T-shirts, photos, etc., which became a real problem because none of these band members had signed anything on my label, none of them Writing songs or being there while recording. They were just session players. It always came from me. "
In August 2013 the band announced their comeback. A new album has been announced for 2014. Just a few hours later, front man Alex Band was kidnapped and beaten up by strangers after performing at a music festival.
