biography

Woon has a very musical background. His mother Mae McKenna is a Celtic folk singer and was involved as a background singer on many hits from big stars from Blur to Kylie Minogue to Michael Jackson . His uncle Hugh McKenna is the keyboardist in the Sensational Alex Harvey Band . Woon himself belonged to a band for the first time at the age of 15 and attended the renowned artist forge BRIT School .

He first drew attention to himself in 2006 with a self-produced recording of the folk song The Wayfaring Stranger . Dubstepper Burial made a remix on his debut single . BBC DJ Gilles Peterson recorded Woon's version on one of his compilation albums.

This was followed by vocal contributions for other musicians and another compilation contribution, before he produced his second single, Night Air , in 2010 and released it on his own label. At the end of the year the song made it into the top 75 of the UK charts and won a contract with Polydor . He was then voted fourth by music experts in the BBC Sound of 2011 poll , which predicts the breakthrough for the following year.

Woon's debut album Mirrorwriting was released in April 2011.
