Flair

Flairck, 1980

Flairck is a Dutch music group founded in 1976 by guitarist Erik Visser. The name is a combination of the English word flair and the Dutch word vlerk for a dexterous hand ; it should express the influences of different cultures and musical styles in the pieces of the group.

Band history

The founding members of the band were

Flairck worked with a number of well-known musicians such as Georges Moustaki and Maggie Reilly as well as orchestras. Tours have taken the group across Europe, but also to Asia, Australia and North and South America.

In September 2016 the band announced that "after 22 albums and thousands of concerts all over the world" they would pass the band name on to a younger generation. The new cast is no longer a founding member:

  • Pablo Patricio Ortiz (guitar, bass, band leader; band member since 2007)
  • Joris Vanvinckenroye ( double bass )
  • Liesbeth Lambrecht (violin)
  • Mart Flecijn (violin)
  • Zhazira Ukeyeva (violin).

stylistics

The group almost exclusively plays their own compositions on acoustic instruments. From a formal point of view, Flairck's music is chamber music , but has roots in classical music as well as strong references to jazz , folk and blues .
