Live at Montreux 1981 is a recording of the live performance of Mike Oldfield , recorded in July 1981, which was only marketed 25 years later, in 2006. Oldfield used the gig to promote his then new album QE2 ; this promo tour began in December 1980 in Sweden and also included two appearances in Germany.

The Montreux Jazz Festival, founded in 1967, attracts hundreds of fans every year; the list of artists who performed there can include such diverse and well-known names as Johnny Cash , Ray Charles or Joe Cocker .

Musician

In contrast to earlier and later concerts with a larger cast, Oldfield performed in Montreux in a six-person cast. Mike Frye and Morris Pert on drums, Rick Fenn on classical guitar, percussion and bass, and Tim Cross on keyboard complemented Mike Oldfield, who played acoustic guitar, mandolin and keyboard, among other things. Singer Maggie Reilly often worked with Oldfield later on, for example on the hit Moonlight Shadow (1983).
