Bernd Wippich

Bernd Maria Wippich (born January 13, 1950 in Hof (Saale) ; † March 31, 2014 in Klagenfurt , Austria ) was a German singer and musician . He played guitar, drums, saxophone and sang in various groups. Among other things, he was a member of the Petards and Randy Pie .

Life

Wippich formed his first band at the age of 13. In 1970 he moved to Kassel and joined the successful band The Petards . At the end of 1972 he moved to Hamburg and founded the band Randy Pie . Here he met his wife, who was born in 1973, the Klagenfurt- born singer Freya Wippich , née Weghofer (* 1952). The common daughter of the marriage is the voice actress and singer Jennifer Böttcher .

Together with his wife, he took part in the German preliminary round of the Eurovision Grand Prix in 1978 with the song Ich carry 'your name and reached number 13. He also recorded two LP albums with her. In 1980 he founded the band Odin . Freya Wippich became a member of the Hornettes in 1985 . In 1983 he and Freya Wippich moved to Munich , where he mostly worked for private radio and as a producer for other artists. At the end of 1991 he returned to his work as a musician. After the Petards reorganized in 2002, Bernd Wippich played guitar with this band again since 2003 and was their lead singer. In 2006 the family moved to Klagenfurt. With his brother-in-law Fredi Weghofer he founded the Duo 2xW there .

Bernd Wippich was 64 years old; he died of bronchial carcinoma.
