Freya Wippich

Freya Wippich (born May 23, 1952 in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee ; née Weghofer ) is an Austrian singer and musical performer .

Life

Freya Wippich was discovered in her early years at a talent competition and in 1964 she released her first single Ask me not / I go through the rain . She later studied singing at the Carinthian State Conservatory .

She sang, among others, with Georg Danzer at the Madcaps the title In Deine Oam , which he wrote for her. She had her first great success in 1970 when she was seventeen in the role of "Sheila" in the German premiere of the musical Hair (German title: Hair) in Munich , in which she toured several German-speaking stages. She later played the role of "Jeannie" in the same play. On the 1970 soundtrack , she is so easily represented with the solo pieces I believe in only one thing , peace ... and No says . In 1971 she took part in international singing competitions in which she competed for Austria, for example the Festival degli sconosciuti, the Festival della Canzone Italiana di Sanremo or the Sopot Festival , where she easily took seventh place with saying no . Via Bremen she then moved to Hamburg , where she also worked as a musical performer, for example in 1970 in Sonntags… nie! .

In Hamburg she also met her husband, who was married in 1973, Bernd Wippich, and from then on appeared under the family name Wippich. The marriage resulted in their daughter Jennifer Böttcher in 1974 , who is known as a voice actress and singer. In 1976 she was a member of the rock formation Rudolf Rock & die Schocker , where she sang with Udo Lindenberg . In 1978 she accompanied him on his live tour. The singles Du bist wie das Meer / Singer (1975) and Danny / Alaska (1976) followed by Telefunken's solo releases . From 1977 she published in a duo with her husband as "Freya & Bernd Wippich", then in 1979 under the name "Friar" (English for friar ; pronunciation similar to Freya ). Together they released their debut album In Eigen S (pr) ache in 1977 and the singles Dann whistle / sleep my child and Simpathy / Electric Dancer on RCA . With it came a duet with the title I wear 'your name in the German preliminary decision to Euro Vision Song Contest and reached 13th place in 1979 was released by RCA nor the joint album Friar and the single release In the Summertime / windsurfers and in 1981, under the name "Freya & Bernd Wippich" still the single Meine Party / Oh, I think I'm lost .

Together with her husband, Rale Oberpichler and others, she founded the band Odin in Hamburg , in which Franz Plasa played the guitar . The band released the album Feuer in 1982 . In 1983 the family moved to Munich. After Lucy Neale and Christina Harrison left the band The Hornettes , which was successful in the early 1980s, in 1985 , she was accepted into the Munich vocal quartet with Jackie Carter , in which she was active until it was dissolved in 1994 and toured worldwide. In 2006 Freya and her husband moved to their Austrian hometown of Klagenfurt. There she worked as a voice trainer and sang in the women's band The Ladies . The trio released the album Cat Pack in 2010 on Lakesidemusic Records .

In 2014 Bernd Wippich died as a result of cancer.
