The Electric Blues Duo is a musician formation that was founded in 1986 by the German guitarist Frank Diez and the British bassist Colin Hodgkinson . At that time you met on the occasion of a production with Konstantin Weckerknow and quickly discovered musical similarities. At this point everyone had already pursued their own extensive career, and the fact that both were already stars in their respective fields in a way did not always make the initial collaboration completely relaxed and harmonious. What had to be compensated for by appropriate professionalism at the beginning was quickly taken care of by the growing friendship and deep respect that Diez and Hodgkinson developed for one another. To this day, other projects of different styles are in the foreground of her musical work. However, the Electric Blues Duo serves the protagonists to pursue their deeply rooted predilection away from “everyday musical life and business”: the blues. The well over 1,300 appearances in recent years have been driven by improvisation and constant new stylistic surprises. As internationally recognized artists, tours and concerts with John Mayall , Konstantin Wecker, Joan Baez , Mercedes Sosa , Miller Anderson , Tony Ashton , Cozy Powell , Spencer Davis and Jan Hammer and John Pearson were on the program. Both were also members of The British Blues Quintet . A milestone in 1990 was the appearance in front of over 90,000 spectators in Leipzig as Peter Maffay's special guests . The Electric Blues Duo prefers to play in front of a smaller audience, which suits their intention, performance and repertoire far more than stage appearances.

In 2006 they celebrated their 20th stage anniversary and released a best-of CD on the occasion. The "The Last Christmas Turkey Tour" 2013 was announced as a farewell tour and was seen as the end of joint live activities by Hodgkinson and Diez in this formation. On September 18, 2019, Frank Diez officially announced during a concert by the Electric Blues Duo in Berlin that this would now be their last public concert.

Trivia

Already at the beginning of the joint work, some media used the fact that Colin Hodgkinson is left-handed to call the duo slightly ironic as " The left and the right hand of the blues ".
