(Sittin 'On) The Dock of the Bay is a song co-written by singer Otis Redding and guitarist Steve Cropper . It reached number 1 on the Billboard 200 as the first posthumously released single and also number 3 on the UK charts.

history

The song was recorded by Redding in 1967, just days before he died. He wrote it on a houseboat near Waldo Point in Sausalito , California when he was on tour with the Bar-Kays , initially under the title Dock of the Bay .

reception

The song is considered a classic and one of the songs with the highest awards. Thus, (Sittin 'On) The Dock of the Bay in 1969 with two R & B Grammy Award and the 1998 Grammy Hall of Fame added. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame lists it as "Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll". Among the top 500 songs of all time of Rolling Stone -Magazines the song is ranked 28, the Recording Industry Association of America chose it to number 22 of the Songs of the Century . The US songwriting organization Broadcast Music Incorporated put the song at number 6 of the songs of the century, and the National Public Radio network voted it among the 100 "Most important American musical works of the 20th century".
