Clarksdale is a city in Coahoma County and the seat of the county seat in the US state of Mississippi with about 20,000 residents. Clarksdale is located in the center of the region known as the "Mississippi Delta", which is a bit misleading for outsiders (this is not the mouth of the Mississippi, but the inland delta of the Yazoo River , one of the more important tributaries of the Mississippi).
Clarksdale is known as the home of the blues . Well-known blues musicians like John Lee Hooker , Muddy Waters , Eddie Boyd , Big Jack Johnson and Sam Cooke come from Clarksdale and the surrounding area .
The Delta Blues Museum is located in Clarksdale . Robert Johnson is said to have sold his soul to the devil in Clarksdale in order to be able to play the real blues - that's how he described it in his piece Crossroads .
The writer Tennessee Williams regularly spent his vacations in Clarksdale. The actor Morgan Freeman lives in Clarksdale and runs the blues club "Ground Zero" there with business partners. At the intersection where Johnson is said to have met the devil, Abe's Barbecue , one of the legendary restaurants of the Southern United States , has been located since 1937 .
