Christone "Kingfish" Ingram (born January 19, 1999 near Clarksdale , Mississippi ) is an American blues guitarist and singer.

biography

Christone Ingram is the son of Princess Pride and Christopher Ingram. Princess Pride is a cousin of the country legend Charley Pride . As a child, Ingram grew up in a gospel environment; from an early age he took an active part in this music. He has heard music from Robert Johnson , Lightnin 'Hopkins , BB King , Muddy Waters , Jimi Hendrix , Prince and others.

Ingram's interest in the blues was around five when his father showed him a television documentary about Muddy Waters and took him to the Delta Blues Museum . He took part in the museum's music courses. At six he learned drums, at nine he played bass before switching to guitar at eleven. He was nicknamed "Kingfish" by his teachers. He made first appearances and was soon known in the Clarksdale area. In November 2014, he played with the Delta Blues Museum Band for Michelle Obama at the White House .

In August 2017 Ingram was one of the headliners for the St. Louis Blues Festival. In the same year he was a guest musician on the album Middle of the Road by Eric Gales . In 2018 he performed at the Chicago Blues Festival .

Ingram's debut album Kingfish was released in May 2019 , which reached number 1 on the Billboard Blues Charts. It was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Traditional Blues Album category. In 2019 Ingram was on tour with Buddy Guy .

Ingram received five Blues Music Awards in 2020, making him the most successful artist that year.
