Ali Shaheed Muhammad
Ali Shaheed Muhammad (born August 11, 1970 in Brooklyn , New York City ) is an American DJ and producer from the Native Tongues .
biography
When he was eight, he began experimenting with mixers and turntables at parties. In 1985 he founded the alternative hip hop group A Tribe Called Quest with Q-Tip and Phife Dawg . He was also part of the producer collective founded in 1996 called The Ummah .
After A Tribe Called Quest broke up in 1998 for personal reasons, Ali started the R&B project Lucy Pearl with Raphael Saadiq and Dawn Robinson , a former vocal member of the music group En Vogue , which turned out to be successful. In the same year he had a guest appearance on the Chris Rock Show . On October 12, 2004 he did the same to his band members and released a solo album called Shaheedullah and Stereotypes . He also appeared in 2007 as "Music Supervisor" for the drama Stomp the Yard .
