The monastery church of the school sisters is a Roman Catholic church in the Lower Austrian city ​​of Amstetten . She is the St. Consecrated to Francis of Assisi .

history

The church of the school sisters was built in 1898/99 by the Amstetten company Schreihofer-Gerlacher according to plans by the Viennese chief engineer Heinrich Holzeland, who was also the site manager.

That for the school sisters from III. Order of St. Francis built monastery building was handed over to its intended use on April 18, 1876; The reason for this was donated by the farmer Johann Datzberger (1823–1905) from Gießhübl . The congregation gradually enlarged the building to its current size: Today it offers space for a primary and secondary school, a housekeeping school, a technical school for economic professions and an educational institution for kindergarten pedagogy. In addition, it has housed the headquarters of the religious order since 1938.

On December 23, 2012, an arson attack was carried out on the monastery church, which caused severe damage.

Architecture and equipment

The church with a hexagonal floor plan presents itself as a raw brick building in neo-Romanesque style, while the associated monastery building is a purely functional building. The high altar, consisting of 4 different types of marble, is the work of the Viennese company Eduard Hauser, the side altars and the pulpit are carvings by Ferdinand Stuflesser from Val Gardena . The people's altar made of Untersberg marble was erected in the course of the church renovation in 1985. Church stalls , wooden ceilings and parapets come from the Weyr company Schönthaler, the design of the church windows was done by the Schiller company from Vienna.

The walls adorned with pictures and ornaments were designed in 1904 by the Melk painter Rupert Lorenz. In the chancel there is a depiction of the apostles , while the pictures on the front refer to the youth work of the sisters: on the left side above the pulpit the divine child friend is depicted, on the right the scene of the twelve-year-old Jesus in the temple can be seen, on the other Side is depicted Maria Sacrifice.
