Hans-Joachim Kowalsky (born July 16, 1921 in Königsberg , † September 7, 2010 in Braunschweig ) was a German mathematician .

Hans-Joachim Kowalsky 1977

Kowalsky received his doctorate in 1949 from the University of Münster under Friedrich Karl Schmidt ( higher difference quotients in topological vector spaces ). From 1958 to 1963 he was a private lecturer and (from 1959) an adjunct professor at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and then from 1963 a full professor at the TU Braunschweig , where he was director of Institute C for Mathematics. After his retirement he lived in Wolfenbüttel . Since 1969 he was a member of the Braunschweig Scientific Society .

Among other things, he dealt with topological vector spaces and wrote a textbook on linear algebra that is widely used in Germany.
