Lil Nas X (2019)

Lil Nas X (born April 9, 1999 in Lithia Springs , Georgia ; real name Montero Lamar Hill ) is an American rapper and singer .

Career

Hill first gained notoriety as an Internet personality on Twitter . From 2015 he was active in social media under the pseudonym NasMaraj , based on Nicki Minaj and Nas . His mostly fictional contributions sometimes reached viral attention.

In 2018 Hill published his own songs for the first time on the Soundcloud platform . His debut single, Old Town Road , was released on December 3, 2018. After just a few months, the song quickly spread due to the YeeHaw Challenge on the TikTok app . Old Town Road hit the US charts in March 2019 . The song was removed from the Hot Country Songs a little later due to a lack of country elements . On April 5, 2019, Billy Ray Cyrus released a remix of the song. A few days later reached Old Town Road , the top of the Hot 100 . At the end of April 2019, the song also rose to number one in the single charts in Germany . With a total of 19 weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 , Old Town Road became the most successful song in US chart history. In August 2019 Lil Nas X was for Old Town Road at the MTV Video Music Awards with the Song of the Year award.

During the summer of 2019, Lil Nas X made several hints about his alleged homosexuality , which he later confirmed in several interviews with US media. He said that as a teenager he was so desperate because of his sexual orientation that he tried to pray it away. Before Lil Nas X, no one has come out as the current number 1 on the Billboard charts.

At the 2020 Grammy Awards , Lil Nas X was one of the favorites with five nominations, but he only won in the category of pop performance by a duo . In addition, the video for Old Town Road was awarded.
