This is a list of the number one hits on the Best Sellers in Stores charts (sales charts) determined by Billboard in the United States in 1956. The figures refer to the first-time combination of sales figures and radio and jukebox listings a Top 100, which is a precursor to the Billboard Hot 100 that is in use today . That year there were thirteen number-one singles and nine number-one albums.
