history
The album was released in mono on the RCA Victor label . The album was recorded on January 10th and 11th, 1956 at RCA Recording Studios in Nashville , Tennessee and on January 30th and 31st at RCA Studios in New York City . At the Sun Studio in Memphis , Tennessee, on July 5, August 19 and September 10, 1954 and on July 11, 1955, additional pieces were recorded.
Success and criticism
Bruce Eder from Allmusic gave the album five out of five stars and an "AMG Album Pick" award. Elvis Presley is a "sensational debut album" like no other. It represents all influences on Presley's music except gospel - rockabilly , blues , rhythm and blues , country and pop . The side Sputnik Music gave a detailed discussion of the fixed employee Dave Donnelly five out of five stars. The album peaked at number 1 on Billboard Pop Albums and number one in the UK . It was awarded platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America .
Cover
The cover was voted number 40 of the 100 best covers of all time by Rolling Stone magazine . The version of the motif from The Clashs London Calling , based on the cover of Elvis Presley , came in 39th . El Vez , known as "Mexican Elvis", paid tribute to both artists in 1991 by recreating the cover of his single El Vez Calling that of Elvis Presley.
