Trying to Get to You ( Engl. For to reach you my effort ) is a by Rose Marie McCoy and Charles Singleton penned song from 1954.

The original recording was recorded by the Eagles that same year and appeared on the B-side of the single Please, Please .

Soon after, Elvis Presley recorded the song while he was still under contract with Sun Records . The rights then went to his new music label RCA Records and the song first appeared in 1956 on the first album released by RCA entitled Elvis Presley . Presley also sang the song live several times and there are releases of such live versions on the live albums Elvis Recorded Live on Stage in Memphis (1974) and Elvis in Concert (1977). The latter album is a recording of his last tour in June 1977, in which he informs the audience, among other things, that he particularly likes this song, that his father and his then (and last) girlfriend Ginger Alden also like it. After that, he jokes at the launch of the song about the various forms of you : "It's called Trying to get to you (dt. My efforts to reach you ). Or Trying to get to y'all ( My efforts to reach you all ). It depends where you come from. Trying to get to yous ( My efforts to reach you ). You all. ”The song was also part of his comeback show from 1968 and appeared on several recordings of the 1968 comeback show.

In 1956 the song appeared on a single by Roy Orbison with the B-side Ooby Dooby .

In 1959 Ricky Nelson recorded another version of the song, which was first seen on television when he sang it on an episode of the television series The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet .

In addition, numerous other artists recorded this song; including The Animals , Johnny Hallyday , Faith Hill , Chris Isaak , Johnny Rivers , and the Stray Cats .
