Stray Cats is an American band. Their music (a mix of rockabilly , punk and new wave ) was strongly based on their idols like Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent . With this mixture, they started a musical revival that became known as Neo-Rockabilly . Other bands in this sub-genre included the Polecats and Matchbox .

history

The band was founded in the summer of 1979 by Brian Setzer ( vocals and guitar ), Slim Jim Phantom ( drums ) and Lee Rocker ( double bass ) under the name Brian Setzer and the Tomcats . In June 1980, the band moved to the UK from Long Island Town Of Massapeaqua, New York , in the expectation that European audiences would appreciate their music better than American audiences. Dave Edmunds took over the production of their first singles and parts of the first album.

In 1982, the band was among other things to see the opening act of the US tour of the Rolling Stones , where they appeared as The Stray Cats . The final breakthrough in Germany came in 1983 with the concert at the Loreley on August 20th, where they performed under the name they now know. In 1984 the group separated for the first time, but in 1986 they reunited. As a result, the band performed until 1992.

After that, the individual members pursued their solo careers, with Brian Setzer being the most successful with the Brian Setzer Orchestra . After they got together again in 2003, they played their first reunion concert on July 5, 2003 in Hootenanny ( California ), which was followed by a tour of the USA and Europe. The live album Rumble In Brixton and DVD were recorded. Later the individual band members took care of their solo projects again and Brian Setzer toured with the Brian Setzer Orchestra. In 2008 they went on a world tour again in their original formation, including in Germany.

This album was released for the 40th anniversary and the Stray Cats went on a worldwide tour in 2019 as announced.
