Built for Speed is an album of Stray Cats from 1982. It only appeared in the United States and included songs from her first two albums Stray Cats and Gonna Ball , which had been published only in Europe.

In addition to the typical rockabilly instrumentation of guitar, double bass and drums, you can also hear a Hawaiian guitar played by Brian Setzer and a bass guitar played by Lee Rocker .

Song selection

Six songs, all of which had been produced by Dave Edmunds , had already appeared in Europe in 1981 on their debut album Stray Cats . They were "Rock This Town", " Stray Cat Strut " (at the same time their two biggest single hits), "Rumble in Brighton", "Runaway Boys", the Gene Vincent classic "Double Talkin 'Baby" from Gene Vincent and the Blue Caps and the Eddie Cochran hit "Jeanie, Jeanie, Jeanie". "Rumble in Brighton" caused quite a stir because the song described a regular annual meeting on Brighton Beach between rockabillies and skinheads , during which the two subcultures fought each other in the manner of a street battle.

Five songs, which the Stray Cats had produced themselves, were taken from the second album Gonna Ball : "Rev It Up & Go", "Little Miss Prissy", "Lonely Summer Nights", "You Don't Believe Me" and Johnny -Burnette -Song "Baby Blue Eyes".

The title track was the only new recording on this album and was produced by the band and Hein Hoven .
