Danny Wolfe (born November 16, 1928 in Stephenville , Texas , † August 7, 1996 ) was an American songwriter and rockabilly musician .

Life

Danny Wolfe came from a wealthy family who owned the Wolfe Nurseries . During the day Wolfe worked as a teenager in the company, in the evening he wrote his first songs, which he played on an old double bass . Wolfe always wanted to appear in public, but did not dare to appear because of his appearance as he was overweight and wore glasses.

In the summer of 1957 Wolfe met the young musician Huelyn Duvall and began promoting him. Wolfe contacted Joe Johnson of Challenge Records, and in September 1957 Duvall had his first recording session in Nashville , Tennessee . Together with professional background musicians like Grady Martin , Floyd Cramer and Buddy Harman , Duvall recorded three Wolfe compositions, namely Pucker Paint , Comin 'or Goin' and Teen Queen . Wolfe wrote and managed other songs for Duvall in the following years.

Meanwhile, Wolfe had signed a record deal with Dot Records . His first single was released there in June 1957, which, however, received little attention. His second record, Let's Flat Get It , a fast-paced rock and roll song, got good reviews from Billboard and sold well; The title did not make it into the charts. In 1959, Wolfe's last record was released, his piece Pucker Paint . In the same year he opened his own recording studio and enjoyed success as a songwriter. His tracks have been recorded by the likes of Sanford Clark ( Modern Romance ), John D. Loudermilk ( Susie's House ) and Bobby Milano ( Life Begins at Four O'Clock ). Gene Vincent recorded three of his compositions, Gonna Back Up Baby , Double Talkin 'Baby and Pretty, Pretty Baby ; and Johnny Cash took Fool's Hall of Fame to a song by Wolfe. In commercial terms, the ballad Sugar Moon became Wolfe's greatest success, as Pat Boone made it to number five on the charts with the title.

Danny Wolfe died of cancer in 1996.
