Floyd Cramer (born October 27, 1933 in Samti, near Shreveport , Louisiana , † December 31, 1997 in Nashville , Tennessee ) was an American pianist and a representative of country music as a composer .

biography

In particular with Chet Atkins , Boots Randolph and others, he created the Nashville Sound of the 1950s and 1960s. Cramer had worked with numerous artists from the closer country scene, but also with pop greats such as Roy Orbison (e.g. Oh, Pretty Woman ), Paul Anka , Brenda Lee , Perry Como and Elvis Presley (he worked on several of his number 1 -Hits with, including 1956 with the first number 1 Heartbreak Hotel ).

With his unmistakable piano style, Floyd Cramer also had solo successes as an instrumentalist. His singles were placed several times on the Billboard Hot 100 and in 1961 On the Rebound placed in Great Britain at number 1. In total, he had released over 50 albums, which in recent years have been released under the music genre Easy Listening in addition to the music genre Country .

His piece "Last Date" was the signature tune of the program "Musik zum Träume", which ran on Ö3 in the 1970s from 11:05 pm to midnight and was also very popular in the surrounding countries.

Floyd Cramer died of lung cancer on December 31, 1997.
