Manfred Ommer (born September 13, 1950 in Bergisch Gladbach ; † May 21, 2021 ) was a German athlete and football official . In the early 1970s, the sprinter took part in many competitions, including the 1972 Olympic Games .

Life

At the European Championships in 1971 he retired with the 4 x 100 meter relay in the finals (loss of baton). In 1972 he became German champion over 100 and 200 meters. At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, he was eliminated in the 200-meter run in the semifinals. Ommer - a member of the relay - was the only German athlete who stopped running after the attack on the Israeli team at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich . In 1974 he was again German champion over 100 and 200 meters. His greatest success was winning the silver medal with 20.76 s in the 200-meter run at the 1974 European Championships . In the 100-meter run he was sixth in 10.36 s, the German relay team was disqualified.

In 1977 he confessed that he had been doping with Dianabol . In the newly emerging doping discussion in 2013 following the submission of the final report of the anti-doping commission, he accused the Freiburg doctor Armin Klümper : "Klümper was the greatest doper on the planet."

Manfred Ommer belonged to the sports club TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen . In his playing days he was 1.77 m tall and weighed 71 kg.

From 1986 to March 8, 1994, Ommer was president of the Bundesliga soccer club FC 08 Homburg .

Ommer suffered from Parkinson's disease as he got older and died on May 21, 2021 at the age of 70.
