Modern English is a British rock band from Colchester , Essex , which belongs to the genre of post-punk , later also to the new wave . She was best known for the songs I Melt with You , Hands Across the Sea and Ink and Paper .

Career

In 1977 Robbie Gray ( vocals ), Gary McDowell ( electric guitar ) and Michael Conroy ( electric bass ) formed a punk band under the name The Lepers in Colchester . In 1979 Richard Brown ( drums ) and Stephen Walker ( keyboards ) joined and the band was called Modern English from then on. The band split up several times, but has been active again since 2009 with four of the five old band members (Roy Martin now plays the drums).

The album After the Snow , released in April 1982 on the independent label 4AD , reached number 70 on the Billboard charts , sold over 500,000 times and was therefore awarded gold .

The Single -Auskopplung I Melt With You reached number 78 cover versions of the song include in the movies 50 First Dates and Not Another Teen Movie heard.
