Alexander Süßmair (born April 18, 1977 in Augsburg ) is a German politician (Polit-WG eV, formerly Die Linke ) and was a member of the German Bundestag from 2009 to 2013 .

Life

From 1983 to 1989, Süßmair attended elementary and secondary school in Stadtbergen . In 1993 he passed his secondary school diploma and in 1996 he passed his technical high school diploma (specializing in technology). After completing his community service , he studied cartography and geomedia technology at a university of applied sciences from 1998 to 2000 . From 2000 to 2002 he worked as a research assistant in the field of environmental research and technology . In the years 2002–2005 he trained as a chemical laboratory assistant . Since 2005, Süßmair has been employed at an institute for pharmaceutical analysis.

In 1996 he joined the Party of Democratic Socialism (PDS). In 1997 he became spokesman for the Augsburg district association of the PDS, since its merger with the WASG spokesman for the Die Linke district association . Since 2007, Süßmair has been a member of the state executive committee of the Left Party in Bavaria . In the Bavarian municipal elections in February 2008, he was elected a member of the Augsburg city council for his party, and took office in May 2008.

In the Bundestag election on September 27, 2009 , Alexander Süßmair moved into the German Bundestag with 6th place on the Bavarian state list . When drawing up the state list for the 2013 federal election , Süßmair applied for fourth place, but lost to Harald Weinberg and then did not run for another place on the list. In the Bundestag constituency of Augsburg-Stadt , he still achieved 4.9% of the vote, after having achieved 6.9% there four years earlier.

In the 2014 local elections in Augsburg, he ran as one of nine candidates for mayor and took seventh place with 1.9%, but remained on the city council.

In the list of candidates in the Bundestag constituency of Augsburg-Stadt for the 2017 Bundestag election , he was no longer able to prevail and was defeated by Frederik Hintermayr, who received 65% of the vote.

At the end of December 2017, Süßmair left the Left Party and initially belonged to the Augsburg city council as a non-party. Later he joined a group of voters called "Polit-WG eV", for which he ran again for the Augsburg local parliament in the Bavarian local elections in 2020 . With 0.3%, it achieved the worst result of all 15 lists and failed to make it into the city council.
