Harald Weinberg (born February 13, 1957 in Bad Godesberg ) is a German politician of the Die Linke party and has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2009 .

Life

Weinberg lived in the Netherlands from 1969 to 1976 . In 1977 he passed his Abitur in Dieburg . He studied social sciences in Marburg and joined the GEW and the SPD in 1979 . He took part in various peace demonstrations. He did his community service with the community service group Venusberg-Klinik Bonn until 1980 and was active in the Bonn Peace Forum. From 1984 to 1986 he was Federal Chairman of the Socialist University Association (SHB). Since 1986 he has worked in market and opinion research at the Society for Consumer Research . He was unionized, particularly in training for works councils. From 2003 he was employed by an educational institution of the ver.di union . In 2004 he resigned from the SPD and was elected district chairman of the WASG in Nuremberg in 2005 , and later also to the regional executive committee of this party in Bavaria. When the WASG merged with the PDS on the left in 2007 , he was elected state spokesman in Bavaria and in the 2008 local elections to the city council of Nuremberg. In the state election in 2008 he was a direct candidate for Nuremberg East. For professional reasons, he did not run for the office of state spokesman again in 2008, but remained on the state executive.

In the 2009 federal election , Weinberg ran in constituency 244 Nuremberg-North and received 8.2% of the first votes. He moved into the German Bundestag via his party's state list . He is chairman of the Die Linke parliamentary group in the health committee, a deputy member of the committee for the environment, nature conservation and reactor safety and a member of the working group on health, care and disability policy. He was also a member of the European Assembly for Security and Defense / Assembly of the Western European Union (WEU) and a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

Trivia

In January 2015, at the request of a refugee organization, Weinberg campaigned for the right to stay for the 27-year-old Syrian refugee Mohammed Daleel, who was threatened with deportation and who would later become a bomb bomber from the bomb attack in Ansbach  . With reference to his attempted suicide, he successfully warned the city of Ansbach that the refugee living there should be given psychiatric treatment, which, however, was suspended at the beginning of 2016 due to the fact that the authorities were unable to further cover the costs. Daleel was killed and 15 other people injured in the Islamist terrorist attack he carried out in July 2016 .

In the 18th legislative period of the German Bundestag, he is a full member of the Health Committee and a deputy member of the Petitions Committee .
